Paarl derives its name from Paarl Mountain, three huge round granite rocks that look like pearls, especially after rain. Cape Town has the closes International Airport to welcomes visitors and tourists to our fair land.  The closest towns to Paarl are Wellington, Franschhoek, Stellenbosch, Somerset West, Strand, with Cape Town, Worcester, Robertson, and Malmesbury a little further away.

Paarl produces mainly agricultural products;  first and foremost is wine, but also fruit and vegetables.  It was used as a stocking station.  ships needed proviand and it was grown in this area because of its rich soil and Mediterranean climate.

About Paarl

Paarl is the third oldest settlement after Cape Town and Stellenbosch, and the Paarl means Pearl.  Fertile soil and temperate weather conditions makes ideal environment for agriculture in the valley.

Paarl hosted a match from the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2003.
