Stellenbosch lies at the foot of the Cape fold mountains. Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek form the Cape Winelands, the largest of the wine growing regions in the Cape, where most of the wine production takes place. Dorp Street lined with the longest row of old historic buildings.

Stellenbosch History

Stellenbosch was founded in 1679 by the Governor of the Cape Colony, Simon van der Stel. Stellenbosch means ‘(van der) Stel’s Bush’. It is situated on the banks of the Eerste Rivier (‘First River’).
